In the wonderful page that closes this issue of Altreconomia, Roberto Mancini reveals the mechanisms that make us numb on one side, the other tolerant of any injustice or oppression, even to ourselves.
Faced with this today, and extensive process of trivialization of evil "- as Mancini calls it - and in front of the rubble - social, political, economic - are seeing a little 'stunned, we are all called to a serene and unconscious assumption of responsibility.
Serenity lies in understanding that, by its very nature, the assumption of responsibility includes the acceptance that not everyone will respond to this call. Quietly, in fact we have to get used to the idea that responsibility is not fair, not all, even if called, will make it their own. And then the weight of this - patience, in the etymological sense - will impinge on few. (However, patience can not be sacrifice, which usually demands something in return for a fee, a settling of scores).
Unconsciousness is rather obvious is that the failure of reasonable people, who, animated by the best intentions and naively disregarding the fact, believe they can rebuild the scaffolding collapsed using some 'reason. Sixty years ago, April 9, 1945, died in prison hanged Flossembürg the German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer, at just 39 years. He was arrested two years ago for conspiring to murder Hitler, then failed in an attack (the picture of Bonhoeffer deserves much more memory that we are capable).
Of the period spent in prison there is the extraordinary correspondence in the famous collection volume and yield strength (published in Italy by St. Paul): a lesson that everyone should hear. "We have experienced and thought too much in the belief that it can be ensured before any action considering the possibilities, so that it then be done completely by myself," he wrote in 1944. "We learned a bit 'too late that the source of the action is not thought but the availability of liability."
Nor is the time of our acceptance or teleology. Instead, it is the era of doubt, of hope, trust. And endurance. "I have often wondered where the line between the necessary steps and the equally necessary resistance be made before the fate," writes in 1944. "I think we have to actually lay hands on things big and special, but at the same time do what is obvious and necessary in general, we have to face the fate and timely submit to it. (...) The boundaries between yield strength and therefore can not be determined in terms of principle: one must be present and the other taken with the decision. " Just asking
responsibility, only by educating the responsibility we can look - serene, unconscious and conscious of the risks - to the future.
